Local emerging economies

  2. Economies locals emergents

The circular economy, industrial symbiosis and new cooperative, social and solidarity-based economic projects.

Stimulating circular economy

The concept of the circular economy is a broad one, encompassing a number of disciplines and approaches. This is a new concept, and the degree of information and knowledge of the circular economy varies greatly from place to place. Thus, one of the focuses of this programme is to inform the public, the business community and local authorities about the various ways the circular economy can work.

Meanwhile, another goal is to foster the green and circular economy through industrial symbiosis projects spearheaded by local governments and businesses, in order to achieve sustainability and to stimulate innovation and economic competitiveness. There are plans to create a metropolitan model based on maximum efficiency in the use of resources. This model will promote the reuse of waste materials as sources of new materials and energy and will encourage maximisation of synergies within the system.

Projects

Circular economy committee
Municipal support for industrial symbiosis

Economically promoting the metropolitan food system

Boosting the competitiveness, innovation and sustainability of the metropolitan area agriculture and food sectors and ensuring citizens better access to healthy and affordable food, within the broader framework of AMB's food policy. It is hoped that this will be achieved by laying the groundwork for a food policy that safeguards the production and access to food, a policy founded on the principles of equality, conservation and environmental sustainability.

Additionally, the plan will seek to bring metropolitan area food producers and consumers closer together in order to promote social and environmental responsibility as well as local food production and consumption. There is also a commitment to collecting environmental, social and economic data on the metropolitan area's food system in order to inform administrative policy on this issue and to promote a more inclusive and sustainable sector.

Promoting cooperative, social and solidarity-based economy

This programme is centred on efforts to create a line of financing and subsidies aimed at new local projects in the cooperative, social and solidarity-based economy. The idea is to strengthen these economic networks and support the further emergence of spaces that foster these activities. Additionally, there is a commitment to stimulating these practices within the economy, both in the traditional sphere and online. These sectors can be a tool in the hands of local governments and civil society groups to further local development.

Also worthy of note are aspects such as the commitment to spreading knowledge of the potential of complementary currencies to serve as a local development tool for city councils and civil society, the effort to publish and maintain a map of cooperative, social and solidarity-based economic activities in the area, and measures taken to raise awareness of these practices.

Projects

Encourage local and complementary currencies
